Leicester
Sell your gold for what it is actually worth
Bring it to the counter in the Lanes and we will test it, weigh it and pay you the same day. No waiting, no obligation — and if you cannot get to Leicester, you can post it to us.
Gold moves with the market all day, so we quote on the day rather than publishing a price list. Ring the shop and we will tell you what we are paying, or walk in and we will weigh your pieces while you wait.

- 3
Free testing and weighing
We test and weigh everything at the counter while you watch, on calibrated scales. Free, whether you sell or not.

Why Rimas
Why sell to us
Nearly a decade in the gold trade — London, Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, and now Leicester.
Nearly a decade in the gold trade
The shop is new. The experience behind it is not: close to ten years buying and trading gold, first in London, then in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, and now over the counter in Leicester.
Photo ID, every time
We ask every customer for photo identification when buying precious metals. It protects you and it protects us. Bring a passport or driving licence with you.
Valued face to face
Your items are tested and weighed in front of you, and the figure is explained before you decide anything.
Or post it to us
If you cannot get to the shop, you can send your gold to us for a valuation. We call you with the figure once it has been tested and weighed, and nothing is bought until you agree.
No obligation
Testing, weighing and valuation are free. If you would rather think about it, take the figure with you.

Hallmark reference
What the numbers on your item mean
British gold is stamped with its purity in parts per thousand. Inside the band, on the clasp, or on the back of a pendant. The mark is small — a magnifying glass, or a phone camera on zoom, usually finds it.
| Mark | Carat | Purity |
|---|---|---|
| 999 | 24ct | 99.9% |
| 958 | 23ct | 95.8% |
| 916 | 22ct | 91.6% |
| 875 | 21ct | 87.5% |
| 833 | 20ct | 83.3% |
| 750 | 18ct | 75.0% |
| 666 | 16ct | 66.7% |
| 625 | 15ct | 62.5% |
| 585 | 14ct | 58.5% |
| 500 | 12ct | 50.0% |
| 416 | 10ct | 41.6% |
| 375 | 9ct | 37.5% |
No mark at all? Bring it in — we will test it free of charge rather than have you guess.
FAQ
Selling gold: your questions
How much is 9ct gold worth per gram?
9 carat gold is 37.5% pure, so a gram of it contains 0.375g of gold. Its value is that fraction of the live market price, less our buying rate.
We do not print a figure here, because the gold price moves throughout the day and a number published this morning would be wrong by the afternoon. Ring the shop and we will tell you what we are paying today, or bring the piece in and we will weigh it while you wait.
Where can I sell gold in Leicester?
We buy gold over the counter at 25 Loseby Ln, Leicester LE1 5DR, in the Lanes. We are open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm, and Sunday, 10:30am to 5pm.
There is no need to book. Bring your items in and we will test and weigh them while you wait.
Do I need ID to sell gold?
Yes. We ask every customer for photo identification when buying precious metals — it protects you and it protects us.
A passport or a driving licence is ideal. If the only photo ID you have is something else, call ahead and we will tell you whether it is suitable before you travel.
What does 375 mean on gold?
375 is a hallmark meaning the item is 37.5% pure gold, which is 9 carat. The number is the purity in parts per thousand.
The same system gives 585 for 14 carat, 750 for 18 carat and 916 for 22 carat. The hallmark reference table above lists them all and where to look for the mark.
Do you buy broken gold?
Yes. Condition makes no difference to what gold is worth — we value it on weight and purity, not on whether it is wearable.
Single earrings, snapped chains, bent rings and tangled scrap are all fine. There is no need to clean or untangle anything first.
How much is my gold ring worth?
That depends on its weight and its carat. Check the inside of the band for a hallmark — 375, 750, 916 — and if you can, weigh it on kitchen scales. With those two figures we can give you a good idea over the phone.
If the ring is set with stones, the estimate will be high: only the gold is valued, and stones can account for a good deal of the weight. Bring it in and we will weigh the metal properly.
Do you buy gold-plated or rolled gold items?
No. Plated and rolled gold items carry a microscopic amount of gold over a base metal, and the cost of recovering it exceeds what it is worth.
Marks such as GP, GEP, RGP or HGE indicate plating. If an item has no hallmark at all, bring it in and we will test it for free rather than guess.
How do you test gold?
We test in front of you, at the counter. Most items can be checked without any mark being left on them.
Testing and weighing are free, whether or not you decide to sell.
How quickly do I get paid?
Over the counter, the same day. Once you have agreed the figure, you are paid before you leave.
If you post your gold to us instead, we call you with a valuation once it has arrived and been tested. Nothing is bought until you agree the figure.
Can I post my gold to you?
Yes. If you cannot get to Leicester, you can send your gold to the shop for a valuation.
Please call before you send anything, so we can tell you how to pack it and which postal service to use. When it arrives we test and weigh it, then call you with a figure. You are under no obligation to sell.
We ask for photo ID from every customer, including those who sell by post, and will explain how to provide it when you call.
Do I have to sell if I come in for a valuation?
No. A valuation puts you under no obligation whatsoever, and there is no charge for it.
You are welcome to take the figure away, think about it, or compare it elsewhere and come back.
Can you value gold at my home?
Yes. We visit customers across the UK, which suits larger collections, house clearances and anyone who would rather not travel with valuables.
Home visits are subject to a minimum value, so please call first and we will tell you straight away whether a visit makes sense.
Why does the gold price change during the day?
Gold trades on international markets that are open around the clock, so its price moves continuously, in the same way a currency does.
That is why we quote on the day rather than publishing a price list, and why the final offer is confirmed at the counter once your items have been weighed and tested.
